Neel Verdoorn
After completing her dance education at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, Neel Verdoorn (1962) danced with dance company REFLEX in Groningen and then with DJAZZEX in The Hague.
Verdoorn danced in choreographies by Nina Wiener, Christien Bastin, Mark Haim, Glenn van der Hoff, Anthony Rizzi, Nils Christe and others. In 1993 she took part in The International Dance Course for Professional Choreographers and Composers (IDCPCC) in Bretton Hall, England. Since then she has been active as a freelance choreographer, dancer and dance teacher.
Neel Verdoorn has been a teacher at dance group Krisztina de Châtel and the Henny Jurriëns Foundation, among others. She is a guest teacher of modern dance at ArtEZ in Arnhem, Fontys in Tilburg and Codarts in Rotterdam and gives the annual summer workshop at the Budapest Dance Theater.
During her time with DJAZZEX Verdoorn created several choreographies for this company. She has also created dance pieces for the Budapest Dance Theater and Pecs Ballet from Hungary, the Italian Alterballetto and Dansgroep Krisztina de Châtel. Between 2003 and 2007 she made various productions with Korzo Productions: A Close Canon, Sisters (2003), The Right Second (2004), Intermission (2005) and If you forget me (2007). Since 2013, Neel Verdoorn has been making regular performances at Internationaal Danstheater, including Mannen van de Tango (2013) and in 2019 Tin Pan Alley.
In 2021 Verdoorn created with her own foundation Neel Verdoorn Dance Projects the solo Silver for the Hague museum Beelden aan Zee. The performance, danced by Roisin Verheul, was created for the exhibition Façade around visual artist Igor Mitoraj.
For Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Neel Verdoorn created Darling(s) in 2002 for TWOOLS 2 and Embrace in 2007 as part of TWOOLS 9.
