For Origin, artistic director Ed Wubbe brings two extraordinary international choreographers to the Netherlands. An exciting performance with influences from Chinese dance, Israeli folk dance and modern dance. The young makers Xingxing Gong and Lior Tavori are still unknown in the Netherlands, but that is about to change.
In Origin, the dancers go in search of the origin, of life and themselves. Life is celebrated, exuberantly with each other, searching for happiness and hope or as a remedy for fear and pain. Origin is an adventurous performance by two emerging choreographers from China and Israel. Both work from social themes centred on human beings.
Kiss the darkness
China's Xingxing Gong creates a dance piece about the strength and fragility of life. About the scars the world inflicts on us, from which new life can also emerge. The dancers tell the story with tender, fluid movements that make an emotional charge palpable.
Within the rapidly emerging modern dance scene in China, Gong shows a strong voice of her own.
Killing the butterfly
Lior Tavori creates a fascinating mix between his roots in Israeli folk dance and modern dance. A confrontation between high spirited dance in fixed group patterns and boundless freedom. In an infectious dance piece, he tries to bridge the gap between group and individual identity.
Tavori has his own dance company in Israel where he is seen as a promising talent.
