Joe Baker
"I like to push my physical capabilities, and what better way to do that than with circus." Joe Baker started doing circus at around the age of eight. After a few years of training, he realised that he wanted a career in circus. In 2022, as a final-year student at Codarts Circus Arts, Joe collaborated in the creation of Oscar.
About working with Scapino Joe says that he especially learned a lot about "how the dancers work as a group and how they adapt and know how to replace each other in a choreography."
Also, the best thing about circus for him is how inclusive it feels. From the perspective of appearance alone, he encounters people of all shapes and sizes. This inclusivity exists because there isn’t a "perfect" form in circus, unlike in sports where such standards are more prevalent. Everyone is different, and the focus is on celebrating each other's differences and admiring people's unique capabilities.
