Richard Wherlock
Richard Wherlock (England, 1958) studied at the Ballet Rambert School under the direction of Gary Sherwood in London. After college he danced in Ballet Rambert Company.
In 1981 he was appointed as a soloist at TanzForum Cologne, where he later became a resident choreographer. He danced in ballets by Hans van Manen, Christopher Bruce, Jochen Ulrich, Glen Tetley, Louis Falco, Anna Sokolow and Robert North. In 1982 and 1984 he received the title Best Young Choreographer of the Year from the prominent Cologne newspaper lner Stadtanzeiger and the dance magazine Tanz Archive. From 1991 he was artistic director of Ballett Theater Hagen. In 1996/1997 he became Artistic Director of the Lucerne Dance Company. Since 2001/2002 he has been director and chief-choeographer of Ballet Basel and in 2004 also intent of the renowned Festival Balsel Tanzt.
