Jiří Kylián
Choreographer Jiří Kylián (Czech Republic, 1947) really needs no introduction. For almost 25 years he directed Nederlands Dans Theater and created 75 works for the company.
As artistic director of NDT, together with Carel Birnie, he founded NDT 2 and initiated NDT 3, a company with older dancers. Kylián remained associated with the company as resident choreographer until 2009.
Kylián's entire oeuvre includes more than 100 creations, made for companies worldwide such as Stuttgart Ballet, Opéra de Paris, Bayerisches Staatsballett in Munich and the Tokyo Ballet.
In 1985 Kylián creates Piccolo Mondo, in honor of Scapino's 40th anniversary. Piccolo Mondo premiered alongside works by Armando Navarro, Toer van Schaijk and Rudi van Dantzig, and was attended by then Queen Beatrix.
