Itamar Serussi

Israeli-born Itamar Serussi Sahar is house choreographer at Danshuis Station Zuid when he is nominated for two Swans in 2012 for his full-length work Mono: for the most impressive dance production and dance achievement.

At fifteen Serussi started at the Israeli Dance Academy and in 1998 he became a dancer with the Batsheva Dance Company. From 2006 he began to develop a personal and very physical style as a choreographer. With his humor and use of improvisation, he steps beyond the boundaries of traditional dance. The result is playful, light-hearted and elegant: fluid, almost animal-like movements that seamlessly transition into clean lines. The music of Richard van Kruysdijk, with whom he has worked since 2010, is an important part of his choreographies. All his pieces are the result of the synergy between him, his surroundings and his dancers.

Between 2010 and 2012, Serussi made a series of shorter productions at Danshuis Station Zuid: Phenomena, Undo, Ferrum, Lust and the aforementioned successful Mono.  In 2014 he made the successful Test for TWOOLS 16, and on Oct. 1 of that year his choreography Wolf premiered in the performance ICONS. In 2015 he made the full-length Henry and in TWOOLS 17 That's the worst thing I could do. For New Adventures, he is making Love Gun in 2017.

His work can be seen throughout Europe. Serussi has made work for companies such as Balletto di Roma, Hessisches Staatsballett, Ballet de Lorraine, Muziektheater Transparant, Fanclub and in London the Royal Opera House.
